Over the years, I have used my husband’s old lawn mower. He collected 10 of those and not one of them I’m comfortable using. Half an acre to mow for 15 years more or less, it was a struggle. And this bad boy recommended by a neighbour, phew, I am extremely happy that I put my foot down to chose and buy my own lawn mower. It’s enjoyable to mow the lawn now rather than moaning all the time. It’s light to use, cuts long grass like a monster, easy to clean.

Had a little problem assembling the handle as it splayed toi much. I was able to carefully bend it in and make it align. Apart from that, assembly was straightforward.
The mower started on the very first pull.
The grass was getting a liitle long and was still wet in parts, so I ran on a high setting with no basket and had it trimmed in no time. It is very light, so easy to maneuvre.
Cleaning was just a case of lightly brushing the loose cuttings then a quick spray with the hose.
Should have bought this years ago.

Great mower for a smaller garden. Bit tricky to put together but if you go online there’s videos that are much better than the instruction book.

Excellent value for money.
Bought due to the products ability to mow grass to a very low level due to the easy adjustable handle at the side of the machine. Looks stylish but also easy to use and powerful. Starts immediately. I would highly recommend and as a result two neighbours also purchased this product as they were impressed by its results! Recommending to my local bowling team too.

This lawnmower is lightweight. I was going to return it when it arrived because I thought it seemed flimsy, but I was wrong, it is a really good mower, it starts very easily, reasonable quiet, and easy to use. It makes a good job of cutting the grass. I would have preferred a larger grass collector but it’s not a problem really. It was delivered the next day after ordering, it is easy to build but instruction manual could be better. I would recommend this lawn mower for its ease of use

Ideal for small to medium gardens. Keenly priced, nice quality & easy handling. Cuts well & collects clippings effectively. Easy to assemble and use but beaware, it’s either on or off – no progressive throttle

This is my first petrol mower. I used it a few months over summer/autumn, then on returning to it in the spring, it wouldn’t start. Yes, I left petrol in it, which I’ve since learned is a BIG no-no. OK, fair enough. Is there any way that I can fix that? Got in touch with customer service who said essentially “try draining the tank and putting in new petrol, if that doesn’t work then take it to this customer service place”.
I drained out the petrol, I put fresh new i90 petrol in (the expensive stuff from the pump) but it still struggled to run. I took it to the customer service place, still under warranty. Was told (on arriving there) that if it was a carburettor clean, that’s not covered by warranty, so I had to pay up. Mountfield said this wasn’t covered by customer warranty.
Now, I’m not complaining that, if I had indeed made the mistake of leaving petrol in it, it’s my fault, and I should fix it. My complaint is that they didn’t make it clear that I’d have to pay to get it fixed if that was the issue. I could have tried taking it apart myself, or taking it somewhere local, but instead I went to their approved dealer which was quite a distance away.
I was informed that these Mountfields with the Stiga engines are very sensitive to old fuel being in them for any length of time, and others I’ve spoken to tend to find that their mowers are much more forgiving, and more serviceable by users. With this one, there is no priming pump, the spark plug is not very easy to access, and to clean the carb is a complex job. I am going to be careful not to leave fuel in it for any long period, but there should be clearer instructions and warning about that.
In terms of cutting the grass, it’s fine – adjusting the height is not especially easy or intuitive, and they don’t give you good instructions about how you’re supposed to lift it to clean it, and angle it so that the oil doesn’t leak into the workings or whatever. I was scared to even angle it slightly to try to clean out the stuck on grass.
So, disappointed in customer services, the manual, and the fact that they didn’t respond when I said I was disappointed. If I have to pay for a mistake, fair enough, but all the petrol, money means it’s cost me an extra £80 or £90 and the time involved in taking it and returning it from the servicing place. And I suspect that a better mower would have coughed a little at the start of the season, but righted itself after a bit of use. I suspect that it is as the mechanic said – the Stiga engines are not robust.
